I had so much fun writing that exchange! Harold can be so serious and proper, I wanted to give him a moment of levity, but still in keeping with his “buttoned down” personality. I’ve also seen first hand people scavenging for better seats at the Met, looking for ones that are empty at intermission, or right before the show starts if they are particularly bold, and I’ve always wondered what would happen if someone pushed back.
Captivated again, I loved the interplay between the characters in this Chapter. Well Demetria you continue to weave this tale with simple elegance just like I imagine the characters are dressed for their night at the Opera.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 favorite line…”So…this seat is taken,” she said flatly.
“Yes,” Harold answered, unblinking. “By the ghost of my dead grandmother.” Enthralled…

Thank you Demetria for honoring this substack space with your creativity!
